Digital kiosk HOLA PREMIUM in the hall of the Yugoslav Drama Theater
Digital Interactive Kiosk HOLA PREMIUM is entirely our hardware solution. In cooperation with the Yugoslav Drama Theater from Belgrade, we created a software solution – a digital timeline of the theater.
We wrote about our great love for design and work on innovation in one of the previous blogs. Now we will present a unique application made for that institution.
The digital device was designed and built exclusively for the theater’s needs, and the application – Theater Timeline.
The application, which represents a kind of digital museum, is the product of the ideas and dedication of the team from the theater itself and our programmers and designers. We are proud and satisfied with the project we implemented with this important institution. Hardware and application for theaters, museums, and galleries are the spheres of our work. And at the same time, we as a team really enjoy realizing such ideas.
DIGITALIZATION OF THEATER AND MUSEUM CREATIVITY
The most difficult part of digitization is to bring static settings to life in digital format to make them dynamic and attractive (tempting) for visitors.
Yes, attractive. Events from the past can attract and retain the attention of modern people only if they are presented sufficiently interestingly and innovatively.
Museum exhibits are related to a specific theme and era. Questions are asked:
– How to revive characters from the past?
– How to evoke the atmosphere and clothes?
– How to actualize the era?
The digital format is essential because it allows a long period from the past (a certain decade, century, or millennium) to be found in front of the modern man on his workbench. The digital format is:
– concise,
– with lots of details,
– easy to understand,
– easily accessible,
– quick to search,
– correct.
Digitization should make museum material accessible and make cultural heritage accessible to more people. In addition to the fact that important information for a certain period is more easily available when visiting a museum or browsing through digital content, a person gets ideas for their progress and more precise conclusions.
A digital or interactive device can combine useful information from the past with the habits of modern man. The Yugoslav Drama Theater presented the digital museum at the Hola interactive kiosk.
TIMELINE OF THE YUGOSLAV DRAMA THEATER
The timeline of the theater has three chronological levels that follow the dynamics of its development since its foundation.
It shows the change of the ensemble and the management and the most crucial thing – happenings on stage, at premieres, guest appearances, pre-premieres, and rehearsals.
It is divided into three parallel timelines (where the years are connected and followed visually and logically).
The years shown were chosen as the most important not by awards but by significant events related to the plays themselves, the ensemble, and to individuals who made a turning point or change in the theater. Not only at the JDP, but at all theaters in Serbia.
WHAT THE PROCESS OF CREATING THE TIMELINE LOOKS LIKE?
The timeline intertwines documentary material – scanned documentation, audio and video content, and photo documentation.
Chronology is essential, but the individual’s memory is equally important. So all the authentic material is accompanied by comments from important theater professionals. On the timeline, an individual’s memory is not arbitrarily given. The comments in question are shown as quotes because they are taken from books.
Everything entered in the timeline can be checked, found, and researched. None of the information is an assumption or an arbitrary conclusion but an established fact from the theater’s past. Like in a museum – all museum exhibits are scientifically and historically verified.
This is very important to know that although the timeline is creative, there is no arbitrariness. One of the essential characteristics of the timeline (a digital museum) is accuracy and reliability.
In the rest of the text, we will discuss other benefits of the device in the theater or a similar cultural institution.
1. Instead of posters, the theater announces the event in a digital format on digital kiosk. The repertoire, premiere, pre-premiere, or whatever the marketing team considers it should be published. As visitors prepare to see the show they came for, a show announcement on a digital device introduces them to new content and awakes their curiosity to see the next new show.
2. A digital device as a place of advertising can present a video. In addition to advertising posters in digital format, a good choice is to post advertising video content. Video conveys and tells a lot faster and more concisely.
3. The theater often directly participates in the life and work of the city. Children’s theaters are actively involved in the work of the social community. They often visit hospitals, senior centers, and schools. Social gatherings can be shown on a digital device and show how the theater affects the lives of its fellow citizens. This strengthens the trust of the institution and the community.
4. The cooperation of the theater and its business partners can be highlighted on the device, thus providing space for sponsors to advertise their services and products. In this way, the audience visiting the theater is informed about the other company, its offer, and its possibilities. The theater is a cultural institution, so no advertisement should be pretentious and offensive.
5. The digital device is also wayfinding, showing where a specific seat, office, or toilet is located. It is very useful at the beginning, during the pause, and after the performance. In this way, the staff is relieved and gives visitors a positive experience. Also, free parking spaces can be displayed on the kiosk if the institution has its parking lot.
We presented some of the ideas that could be found on the digital device of a theater or some other cultural institution. The Yugoslav Drama Theater on Hola Premium digital device shows the timeline of the theater. Also, the Hola Premium digital device, when not in use or standby mode, broadcasts announcements of theater performances as well as the repertoire for the current month.
The timeline is not final. It is supplemented by significant events that slowly move from the current moment to the past. The timeline stores all the details related to the past event. It shows the past tense to constantly remind us of the right actions and decisions in the present.
Please send us your impressions when you scroll through the timeline at the Yugoslav Drama Theater. Or send us your ideas and questions if our projects inspire you. Through cooperation, we will develop solutions that fully meet your requirements.
